You are more talented than you think. You are worth more than you make. You can achieve more than you know. The unfortunate fact is that 90% of individuals who fall into this category are challenged by the basic skills that will get them there. We are in an industry where we have an easier time conversing with a computer than we do People. Keeping our heads down with art and math problems is easy, but People problems and conversations are challenging. Companies know this. They are professional negotiators and while we are only speaking with a handful of companies; any one of those Companies has had these conversations with every employee that's ever been offered a position there.
In this Training Series, You will learn the skills, strategies, and path to land your Dream position and your Dream compensation. While we can't guarantee doubling salaries down to the dollar, we can guarantee you will be in an infinitely better place to achieve that role and those ideal numbers.
This course is for Students, Juniors, Mid-level Artists, and Industry Veterans. Wherever you are in your career, you can do better.
There are a multitude of Professional "Get a Job" courses out there, but few that encompass the process from start to finish with VFX and Game roles in mind. We're going to start with the Job search and application process: How to find jobs and How should we apply. We're going to discuss and review good and bad resumes. We're going to look at efficient and easy ways to not only generate cover letters that will set you apart from the competition, but also easily adjust them for different companies. We're going to examine good and bad demo reels and the simple items needed to greatly improve your chances of getting noticed.
We're going to discuss the interview process: what to expect, how long, and how to succeed. We're going to look at the conversation from the perspective of the Applicant as well as the Interviewers through Mock 1on1 and Group Panel interviews. The Professional World has changed with more interviews moving to the Virtual scene. While core concepts remain the same, we're going to deep dive into the psychology of conversation and how to make the best impression possible. We'll go over what interviewers want to see, hear, and feel when they speak with you. Most importantly, we'll look at how you can show them your worth and talent without saying it.
Next we're going to talk about the compensation negotiation process. Many people make the mistake of celebrating here, but this is the time to do anything but settle. It can be scary and uncomfortable, but We're going to learn how to discuss the value we bring to table, not just the number we say we are valued. We're going to approach the situation by understanding the other Side and the challenges they experience everyday and how we can solve these problems collaboratively.
Most people assume that the "Get a Job" journey ends with the Offer letter signed. We're going to examine how you can be your best self and maximize your performance in the workplace. How to interact with coworkers, with Point players, and with Leaders to develop strong relationships for your time not only at that company but ones that will last in the future. We're going to discuss how to be a Person your Company sees as valuable and wants to keep.
Lastly, we are going to take all of these concepts and apply them to Negotiating Raises and Traversing Positions. While there are similarities to Negotiating the initial compensations, we're going to go over strategies and items you can use to your advantage. Scenarios change slightly between jobs and companies, but the value you bring only grows over time and you should be compensated for it.
My name is Noah Schnapp and my career spans 15 years in the Visual Effects and Video Games industry. I've made the journey from Junior Artist to Individual Contributor, Lead, and Supervisor positions. I've interacted with multiple technical and non technical departments and areas of Production as well as external Vendors. I've also had the pleasure of scouting, interviewing, and hiring full Teams at studios. Many training courses for the Professional world make the mistake of limiting the discussion to only the perspective of the Applicant; but we are going to examine the journey from the Interviewer's perspective as well to prepare us to be the greatest we can be.
This is not a "One day" dream, this is "Day One" of that dream.
